ABOUT
One of my favorite interviews is Mark Duplass on Off Camera with Sam Jones. When Mark and his brother Jay were in high school, they saved up all summer to buy a used drum kit. After finally getting it, Mark would race home from school to play them in this dirty shed in their backyard. “And I would just play for hours, and the truth is I’ve never been happier. And I don’t know if I’ll ever be that happy again. And I’m chasing that constantly.”
As someone who also grew up playing and loving music, I very much relate to that feeling. On my best days, I experience it while working on a script. The dialogue comes naturally, the transitions line up, the jokes land, the button to each scene presents itself. It is so ephemeral, yet so addictive. I am constantly writing in hopes of capturing that feeling again, if ever so briefly.
